Spain's annual total primary energy supply currently comes to approx. 6100 Petajoule (PJ)*. At 49% crude oil represents the largest percentage, followed by natural gas (20%), coal (15%) and nuclear power (10%).

Der politische Förderplan „Plan de Fomento de Energias Renovables (PER) 2005 2010“ legt bis 2010 die Leitlinien der Förderpolitik fest. Im Bereich der Photovoltaik hebt der Förderplan das ursprüngliche Ausbauziel von zuletzt 150 MWp auf 400 MWp installierte Leistung bis 2010 an. Nach dem Förderplan für erneuerbare Energien will Spanien bis 2010 den Anteil Erneuerbarer Energien auf 12,1 % anheben.
